b. 1971
Fort Guerin graduated with his BFA from Northern Arizona
University. His original direction was in sculpture, but, like many
other young artists, he didn't have the resources to continue on
this path. He soon took up painting in his home, defining his style
through obsessive journaling. As a self-taught painter, his unique
style of combining imagery with text, either narrative or stream
of consciousness, reflects his neurotic personality and his struggles
with writing. As Fort says, "My hand doesn't come with spell
check." To him, the work is not only about imagery, but also
about how the text plays visually on the surface. Fort recently
moved from Arizona to the Washington DC area, where he now paints
in his basement studio, surrounded by his collection of taxidermy.
His work has been exhibited in numerous galleries in Arizona. |
