sacred objects
november 18 - december 24, 2005
the constructions of atlanta sculptor anne cox hang in the gallery-like icons in a chapel.the surfaces shimmer, the saints open their arms, and the characters act out stories. but the tales in these works are more personal. full of jokes, warnings and dreams, these are intimate legends in solid form, created by the artist to commemorate saving moments and to deal with trouble. some are shields against making the same mistake twice. some are celebrations of surviving something terrible. one is a glittering spiral that's about the seasons flying past. there's even a door into the beautiful night world of moths. "we all need tools of power to call on when times are hard," the artist says, "so I make them."
