Troy Dugas

b. 1970

troy dugas was born in rayne, louisiana. troy received his bfa from the university of southwestern louisiana in 1994. in 1995 he moved to new york where he received a mfa from pratt institute. troy has exhibited at the rotunda gallery (brooklyn), the islip art museum (long island) and was featured in the wellesley open press' new american paintings in 2005. in january 2008 he was included in the first volume of studio visit magazine, a new series of juried artist books from the publishers of new american paintings. he is also featured in david rubin's book: psychedelic, optical and visionary art since the 1960s from mit press. he lived in new york for seven years and worked as a designer for federated merchandising, new york product development, nickelodeon, and simon and schuster.

since his return to louisiana in 2002, troy has exhibited at the acadian center for the arts and the paul and lulu hillard university art museum, both in lafayette, la; the ogden museum of southern art, new orleans, la; the abercrombie gallery at mckneese university, lake charles, la; the gueydan museum in gueydan, la; the ephemeral gallery in baton rouge, la; the jonathan ferrara gallery in new orleans, la and the arthur roger gallery in new orleans, la. in 2008 he completed a commission for the cousins properties' terminus in atlanta, ga.

dugas is the 2009-2010 recipient of the prestigious pollock-krasner grant from the pollock-krasner foundation in new york. he currently lives and works in lafayette, la creating intricate, optically woven abstractions from his collection of vintage labels.
